The Campaign for English Independence is hereby launched on 4 July 2011

The date of 4th July 1776 is famous in history as the day when the Continental Congress issued the United States Declaration of Independence.  This Declaration announced that the thirteen American colonies then at war with Great Britain were now independent states, and thus no longer a part of the British Empire.

The birthday of the United States of America  - Independence day- is celebrated on July 4, the day the wording of the Declaration was approved by Congress.

The Declaration justified the independence of the United States by listing colonial grievances against King George III, and by asserting certain natural rights, including a right of revolution.  Having served its original purpose in announcing independence, the text of the Declaration was initially ignored after the American Revolution. Its stature grew over the years, particularly the second sentence, a sweeping statement of individual human rights: 
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness
Today, the 4 July 2011, this Campaign launches the Declaration of English Independence and we will ask all the people of England to sign this Declaration, to join and to support this new Campaign for English Independence.

We seek independence for England for what are also self-evident reasons.

It it self-evident that when England can only remain as part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland if we, all the people of England, are denied - alone among the home nations  - our own Parliament, Government, First Minister and Civil Service, then we have no future in the Union of the UK.

It is self-evident that as the British elites - just for their own selfish reasons of keeping their public jobs and their high salaries - deploy the resources of the British state against the people to eliminate our English identity, then England must leave the Union of the UK and regain its national independence.

It is self-evident that the British elites having under their party's control the resources of the British state, the British Parliament and British electoral rules and processes, then they cannot be accountable to the English people and nation.

It is self-evident that these unaccountable British elites have long concluded that they are incapable of reversing the UK's long decline and indeed are even unable to manage well the UK's decline.

Inspired by the American Declaration of Independence, the more recent peaceful uprisings of the Orange Revolution in the Ukraine, and the extraordinary courage currently being shown by the various Arab nations in the Arab Spring, then we ask all the people of England to assert their English identity, to demand the revival of the English Parliament and in general to stand up for England. 

We English have had an extraordinary history, with England being the Mother of all Parliaments, with Magna Carta signed in 1215, with the Parliamentary forces defeating Stuart absolutism in the Civil Wars of the 1640s, with the rise of constitutional monarchy after the Glorious Revolution of 1688, with the great Reform Acts of the nineteenth century.  In all these great moments of history, landmarks in political development, the underlying story is about the people of England fighting unaccountable, corrupt and selfish elites.

It now falls to this present generation - once again - to assert our love for our nation, our devotion to Parliamentary democracy, and our determination to uphold our personal rights and freedoms, to assert our English identity and to proclaim claim that our national sovereignty lies with and is comprised by the people of England and no one else. 

In this Campaign for English Independence we ask our fellow English people for their moral and practical support. 

We, the people of England comprising some 84% of the population of the Union of the UK, have the majority as well as justice on our side.  We - when campaigning together - are in the majority and do not need to break any laws in our Campaign, nor resort to violence.

Instead the great English values of steadiness, persistence and careful thought in safeguarding our personal freedoms, our sense of a shared community based on personal resposonsibility, our individualism, and our tolerance and respect for others will be our weapons.

This is a campaign and a struggle to overthrow the British elites, and to claim back our national independence, that we the people of England must - and will - win.
